First Debris From Japanese Tsunami Reaches West Coast
So more cool news. Parts of dead bodies could be coming ashore? Sounds like science fiction right? Not anymore...
About two weeks ago on a Neah Bay Beach, a large black float washed up on the West Coast, and was identified as being from the March 11 tsunami in Japan.
It was displayed Tuesday night at a presentation held at Peninsual College by Seattle oceanographers Curtis Ebbesmeyer and Jim Ingraham.
The prospect sounds pretty grim, but tons of debris from Japan will likely begin to wash up ashore in about a year. The 55-gallon drum-sized floats also have been found on Vancouver Island, and as more washes up ashore, it may be found from California to southern Alaska.
Items that may wash up, can include portions of houses, boats, ships, furniture, portions of cars and just about anything else that floats. That could include parts of human bodies, Ebbesmeyer said. Athletic shoes act as floats, he said.
Parts of bodies floating up? Can you imagine that fishing trip? Woo!
