Quadruple Amputee Receives New Hands In Transplant
I've always said, "Medical science has been doing some pretty amazing things." This is one of those cool things, that for me, signals stuff we see in movies, like eye replacement, isn't so far off.
In 2002, Richard Mangino, age 65, of Revere, contracted a severe bloodstream infection due to a kidney stone. As a result, he lost his arms below the elbows and his legs below the knees.
Last week, at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital, an amazing team of more than 40 surgeons and support staff performed an incredible double hand transplant. The operation took more than 12 hours.
This is the second hand transplant done at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital.
