Saudi women get right to vote, but can't drive yet
So this was a story I heard on the news yesterday and as triumphant as it is for women's rights, it's also kinda funny. King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, who is considered a reformer by the standards of his own ultraconservative kingdom, decreed on Sunday that women will for the first time have the right to vote and run in local elections due in 2015.
As awesome as this is, women still hey are unable to serve as Cabinet ministers, drive or travel abroad without permission from a male guardian.
Now that they can vote, and knowing the determination of women (I have 3 sisters, and yes, even I had a mother), that will soon change!
